Spin glass is a prototypical disordered system in statistical mechanics, exhibiting numerous intriguing properties such as replica symmetry breaking and equilibrium chaos. While the mean-field spin glass is relatively well understood, basic properties of the more realistic models, e.g., in three dimensions remain largely unclear. In this talk, we first introduce the spin glass and the possible theoretical pictures in three dimensions. We subsequently focus on a fundamental problem whether the three-dimensional spin glass has one or many pairs of pure states from the computational perspective, arguing that the present numerical results are most compatible with many thermodynamic states. In addition, we briefly describe the recently developed population annealing Monte Carlo algorithm, which is a general purpose, efficient, and massively parallel method for simulating glassy systems.
汪文龍：現任四川大學物理學院特聘研究員。凝聚態計算物理，主要研究統計物理無序系統、非線性孤波、與數值計算技術。2015年畢業于美國Univ. of Massachusetts Amherst，之后在美國Texas A&M Univ. 和瑞典Royal Inst. of Tech. 分別從事兩年博士后研究，并于2019年入職四川大學物理學院。
